A responsible NFC and QR workflow for estimates and service visits: share a profile, capture only needed details and agree on the next step.

Short answer: After an estimate or service visit, offer the customer an NFC or QR link to your professional profile, a relevant enquiry form or your chosen booking destination. Collect only information needed for the next agreed step, then follow up through an appropriate channel.

Make the in-person handoff useful

A field professional can share a profile at a customer visit, on a work badge or with a printed estimate. The customer might save contact details, ask a follow-up question, or open a link to request another appointment. NFC Forum describes NFC as short-range and identifies smart posters that open a web address as a common use; QR provides a separate camera-based route.

Tapytap describes public profiles shared via NFC or QR, lead forms, booking and review links, team use and interaction analytics. Treat the profile as the handoff page. The business’s chosen booking provider or inbox handles the actual appointment or reply. Do not claim that a tap automatically becomes a quote request or that a particular CRM receives it unless that exact workflow has been verified.

Agree on what happens next

At the end of the visit, repeat the next step: “I’ll send the estimate to this address by Thursday” or “Use this link if you want to request another visit.” Ask for only the contact details needed for that action. The UK ICO says people should be told how their information is used when it is collected, and its marketing guidance distinguishes requested communication from subsequent promotional email or text. These rules apply in a specific jurisdiction; check local requirements rather than assuming a single global consent rule.

If the customer chooses to share details through a form, explain the purpose and avoid unnecessary sensitive information. After a completed service, you may offer a neutral Google review link; Google prohibits incentives in exchange for reviews.

A practical field checklist

  • Test the profile and QR before leaving the office.
  • Use a clear label such as “Request a return visit.”
  • Keep a printed URL or phone number as a fallback.
  • Record the promised follow-up and responsible person.
  • Distinguish a profile interaction from a booked job or accepted estimate.
  • FAQs

Tapytap says a recipient can open the shared profile without an app.
